Dawn Westaway started as a flower-maker at Royal Worcester in 1960 when she was 15. Both her parents worked at the Porcelain; her mother Florence Powell was a ‘fettler’, removing bumps and rough edges from the china, and her father Bert Powell was the Back Lodge man, manning the factory’s back gate on Mill Street. Dawn loved her job and describes in detail how each part of the flower was made. She specialised in stand-alone flowers and flowers for the Doughty bird models. She left in 1962.
