George Morris, Caster, Mould Maker & Manager

George Morris began work at Royal Worcester in 1948 with the Casters but was soon transferred to Mould-Making. He gradually learned all aspects of the trade, seeing many changes along the way, such as the introduction of rubber moulds. Goerge was also involved in the trade union and the factory’s social and sporting life, becoming secretary of the Royal Worcester Cricket Club. He came to know all the designers and has many stories about working with people like the modellers Doris Lindner, Freda and Dorothy Doughty and Bernard Winskell. He eventually become Manager of Porcelain Development, trouble-shooting all aspects of porcelain making. George retired in 1993 and then helped set up the Museum’s Visitor Centre.
